Tuesday 31st December 2024 - Latest Vlog, Welcoming in 2025 and I Set Myself a Goal

I have posted, on YouTube, my latest vlog, covering the Christmas Tree Festival in St Martins Church and the Boxing Day Swim.  We always felt, Peter’s videos recorded on our trips to Greece, added that extra something over and above my photos.  I hope that, in a similar way, my vlog will give viewers a feel for the ambience and atmosphere at both of these events.  As well as being on my YouTube channel there is also a link on Janet’s Videos page, along with all my other vlogs.

Over Christmas, the village was quiet.  All change now as we see holiday lets and second homes fill up and yesterday the car park was nearly full, with people milling about in the village.  I wonder if the attraction is the New Year’s Day fireworks in Cromer; it’s certainly not the weather!  All of the village’s residents, we have spoken to, say they’re not staying up to see in the New Year – that includes us.  In view of this, it looks as though any celebrations in the village will be at the Conservative Club, The White Horse and the Sea Marge, who all are featuring different ways of welcoming in 2025.

Moving on to the New Year, which is associated with setting resolutions.  At our ExWI lunch this month, everyone said they would be giving New Year’s Resolutions a miss because they invariably broke them.  As for me, not so much a resolution; instead, I have set myself a goal.  Inspired by Vanessa’s drawings in her YouTube vlogs on her channel, The Mindful Narrowboat, I thought I would like to have a try sketching some of the things we see on our walks and in our garden etc.  My goal is not to produce perfect drawings but ones, where the item is recognisable to others.  Before I say any more, I need to tell you that my school art teacher despaired at my attempts of anything artistic.  In the end she gave me some pens, paper and a pot of ink and I found using these I was good at calligraphy.  My teacher heaved a sigh of relief!  For Christmas, Peter bought me a selection of various pencils and other items all in a neat zip up folder, designed for the beginner; which I most certainly am.  He also gave me two pads of drawing paper.  I have watched a few YouTube videos for novices and since then I have sketched an apple, red ivy leaf (see photo of original below) and a Greek wine tumbler on a lace mat and even though I say so myself they aren’t too bad for a total beginner – pity my art teacher is not around to see my efforts!

So that’s it, my last blog for 2024.  Time now for Peter and I to wish you all -

A Very Happy and Healthy 2025.
