Tuesday 26th November 2024 - Storm Bert and December Calendar of Events
Weather warnings were put out by the media, as Storm Bert was set to cause havoc across the country. Apart from some properties losing power in the county, I have not seen any other adverse reports of damage etc, caused by ‘Bert’, here in Norfolk. The winds, when they arrived overland, were relatively warm but there was rain, which kept us inside on Saturday – a thoroughly miserable day. I decided to put some of this time indoors to good use and cleaned out the kitchen cupboards as well as starting to put together a video covering autumn in Overstrand. The winds have abated, leaving more leaves, strew across the garden and up the lane. Yesterday morning, Peter started clearing them before deciding to use the leaf blower/sucker. This, after a few years of not being used, refused to work. Later, I joined Peter in the garden and between us, we raked and swept up most of them, putting those that will break down well, into bags and the composter used for making leaf mould.
I have updated the village calendar page with those events in the village, I am aware of, during the lead up to Christmas. The Pleasaunce are having an open day and Christmas party and a first for the village, there will be a Christmas Tree Festival in the church. Although there are no posters in the village, Santa should be making his annual tour of the village, in his boat. On Christmas Eve, there will be a short service around the crib in St Martins in the afternoon, plus a morning service on Christmas Day. I should also mention the village’s Yarn Art Group are exhibiting at the Christmas Tree Festival in Cromer Church; this will take place between 2nd and 7th December. This creative group have something rather special to exhibit this year; they have certainly been thinking ‘outside the box’.
Today’s photo was taken this morning from the cliff top, looking through the ox eye daisy seed heads and down the coast. It has been a beautiful day and positively toasty in our greenhouse, when I was tending the overwintering plants.
