Thursday 13th February 2025 - Everyone Commented and Reduction of Income
The weather is so cold and grey. Everyone at our ExWI meeting, at The Belfry café, yesterday commented they were fed up with the weather. It was cold last week but we did have sun making it pleasant to sit on our garden bench and prick out onion seedlings. Looking at the forecast for next week, we should see some sun and temperatures in double figures centigrade. In view of this, I have been working on my winter list of things to do, with gusto. I want to cross as much as I can off this list so I can get out in the garden next week and hopefully clean the greenhouse inside and out.
Looking ahead to the warmer months, Overstrand Together have published the dates of their events for the coming year. It’s all the usual, which I have posted on the Village Calendar page. I have received the minutes for last week’s Overstrand Together meeting. Here, a villager suggested a village competition for cakes, flower arrangements and vegetables could be added to the Summer Fair by using one of the existing craft marquees. However, it was noted in the minutes, this would mean a reduction in the number of exhibitors and therefore income to this event. The event organisers, both members of the steering group, were reluctant to agree to this and said the Fair had a very large and loyal following of exhibitors and reducing the opportunity for them to attend could send a negative message to potential new exhibitors and mean a reduction of income. The villager said they would look at their proposal again. I hope they do as I think this is a brilliant idea and would involve more local residents in this event as well as providing additional interest.
That’s all from me today, back now to working on that winter to do list. Today’s photo is just an example of one of the recent grey days.
