Sunday 29th September - Whatever Happened? High Winds and Stunning Start

Whatever happened to mentally distress (description used by North Norfolk News) the man who visited the village, in his car with his dog, which culminated with a Police incident at St Martins church.  This man chatted to a number of villagers, including us.  He was inoffensive, in fact completely the opposite, and came over as laid back; a free spirit.  However, according to North Norfolk News he locked himself and his dog in the church and refused to come out.  Why did he do this and why did the Police find it necessary to deploy so many, including armed officers, a drone, a fire tender and ambulances?  These are questions we will probably never get the full answers to but there is plenty of speculation and unverified reports doing the rounds.  What has come out, from those who spoke to him, is compassion and concern for this man and genuine good wishes, as well as prayers, for his and his dog’s future.

Yesterday we spent time clearing up the garden after Friday’s high winds.  Our garden was littered with leaves and small branches from the trees in our back garden.  There was nothing for it but to get out the rake and broom to clear the lawn and after this, I was on my hands and knees clearing out trapped leaves from around the plants and shrubs.  The remaining sweetcorn plants on Peter’s veg plot were flattened.  Had the weather continued, as it has been over the last couple of weeks, this second sowing of corn should have developed some nice cobs, as it was Peter had to pull out the plants and remove the juvenile cobs which may yield some corn but definitely nothing like the first sowings.  This morning Peter mowed the grass which I edged and cleared trapped leaves from the borders in the front.  Our garden now looks tidy again.

I’m going to round off, this last blog for September, with a photo of this morning’s sunrise.  What a beautiful start this was to the day, bringing smiles to the faces of those that witnessed it.
