Saturday 2nd November 2024 - Poppies at St Martins, Breakage and Turn Up the Volume
Tuesday was a full day, starting with an appointment, followed by writing a blog and then an early lunch so as to be at St Martins Church for 12.30 to help decorate the gates with poppies. The Yarn Art group made one hundred and sixty poppies, plus some lengths of French knitting. The latter was twined around the two main gates to the church before fixing on poppies. They do look cheery and there have been a number of positive comments on my Facebook post. Today’s photos are of the decorated gates.
Somehow, I managed to break another glass vase. Not a complete breakage but washing it, on Tuesday, I spotted a crack. No idea how this happened but there was nothing for it other than to wrap it in newspaper, place in a kitchen bin liner and consign it to our grey bin. I replaced the vase I broke a few weeks ago with a purchase at the car boot sale. This time, on Wednesday, I did the rounds of the charity shops, while I was in Cromer but there was nothing of the right size or shape. I have to mention, but no names, one charity shop was playing Christmas music! Why has Christmas become over commercialised, starting earlier each year? It totally turns me off, a celebration that, in the past, never really kicked off in shops until the beginning of December, so why does it have to start so early now?. Back to the quest for a vase; on Friday, the Inshore Lifeboat charity shop in Mundesley, had what I was looking for and I now have a very nice vase for the bargain price of £5.
This evening the Parish Council are holding their annual firework display. A very popular event, but not all pets appreciate the associated bangs. Our dog, Barney, loved to watch fireworks but it is very different for our cat, Sid, who gets freaked by loud sounds. We usually listen to music on a Saturday evening; we will need to turn the volume up tonight to try a mask the explosions.
