Saturday 27th July 2024 - Filming, Bins Emptied and the Promenade

Tuesday afternoon, I was all geared up to film our walk back from Northrepps, after visiting a friend.  Having my plans to film this walk scuppered following our last two visits, I thought this would be, third time lucky but no.  When we arrived, at our friend’s home, they were distressed and although calmer by the time we left, I was definitely not in the right frame of mind to record our walk home.  We took the longer route back and I was glad we did, passing fields of ripe cereals (see photo), wild flowers and we saw so many butterflies fluttering about in the hedgerows.  Gatekeepers, commas, red admirals and meadow browns were a delight to watch, especially as there has been a definite reduction in the numbers of insects of various types this year.  By the time we reached home, I was in a far better spirits (just shows what nature can do) and since then I have phoned our friend making sure they are okay.

We were pleased to see the bin has been emptied and the adjacent rubbish cleared from the corner of the zigzag path as well as lids fitted to the dog bins.  I still would prefer to be able to email a contact, as in the past, at NNDC.

The weather continues to fluctuate but has been drier, which has to be a plus now the school holidays are in full swing.  There is plenty of sand (there isn’t always) on the beach below the promenade with the rough area, I showed in my blog for 15th July, not as extensive.  However, there is still quite a drop down from the steps, and the debris from the cliff fall, below the Sea Marge, has restricted the width of promenade.  The plant equipment in the compound at the east end of the promenade has gone, so the debris probably won’t be cleared any time soon.  I do wonder why NNDC think the steps, which have been closed since January (see my blog dated 19th January), now warrants five notices advising the public of the closure.  Pretty obvious as the steps have been barricaded off with railings - notices aren’t going to stop anyone who is determined to use these steps. Is this a waste of tax payers’ money, or has some jobsworth decided signs are needed in the name of health and safety, or maybe it's both.
