Monday 21st October 2024 - A Great Weekend

Apart from the weather, we’ve had a great weekend.  Galling, when we had such lovely warm October days last week, for it to turn when our family arrived for a visit on Friday evening.  During the week, I kept an eye on the weather forecast, in the hope it would change from rain to being dry……. but it didn’t.  On Saturday morning, it wasn’t too bad, more like drizzle than rain.  After watching my YouTube video covering our visit to Natural Surroundings in May our family said they would like to visit.   Damp with lots of fallen leaves, the centre was not exactly as impressive as it was when we visited in the spring, but there was still enough for them to say, they would like to return in the warmer months.  As co-owner, Simon Harrap, is giving a fungi tour around the centre on the 29th October, I thought there would be more of these fascinating organisms to be seen but maybe they have yet to erupt.  However, there was still interest in the form of flowers, berries, fallen leaves and seed heads.

The skies started to clear in the afternoon and with a very low tide, we took a walk on the beach to below Trimingham.  Here we turned to retrace our steps, only to see dark clouds looming.  It wasn’t long before rain set in and by the time we got home, jackets and trousers were well and truly wet.  The clothes airer was pulled out of a cupboard, erected in our conservatory and draped in wet wear.  Fortunately, the rain stopped by the time we walked, in the evening, to the Sea Marge for dinner.

Sunday morning and it was showery.  Our family took a walk around the village before we drove to The Roman Camp (which had been recommended) for lunch.  Sat in their extensive conservatory, we looked out over the gardens which we could see would be a great place to sit and relax with food and a drink on a warm summer’s day – we must return.  From here, we went our separate ways, returning to our respective homes.

Today’s photo is of an inkcap fungi.  We didn’t see this at Natural Surroundings but along one of the village footpaths.  Before I took the photo, I held a plant to one side so as to get a clear shot but at the same time, I brushed the edge of the fungi and ended up with black on my hand, proving why this is called an inkcap.
