Friday 19th November 2021 - A Great Result
With Covid still very much with us, it has proven to be another difficult year with regards to the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Last year the donations came from wreaths, direct donations and the Kids Pack in the Belfry School. This year we were able to do more. In addition to those mentioned for last year, local businesses were able to have collecting tins and poppy trays in their premises and Sidestrand Hall School had a Kids Pack and collecting tin. However, once again, we did not do house to house collections but thanks to all those mentioned, Overstrand has more than doubled the sum collected in 2020. Following two trips to Overstrand’s Post Office and one to the bank in Cromer, plus the donation from St Martins Church, yesterday I was able to submit my return to the Royal British Legion and I can now report the total sum raised - £1068.45.
I would like to thank all those who had wreaths this year, the businesses in the village, the two schools, those who made donations (both direct and into collecting tins), St Martin’s Church for donating the collection from the Remembrance Service, not forgetting Sharon at the Post Office for her patience, Derek, Martin and Peter who helped count the donations and to Gordon who arranged for us to use an independent location for the count. As you can see there was a lot of support and help provided in Overstrand for the Appeal; support and help that has made for a great result.
So, that’s it for another year. I am just left with putting up posters, distributing thank you cards, and finally storing the paperwork and other bits and pieces ready for next year’s appeal.
